FICO and NAR Debate Credit Scoring Model and Impact on Consumers
The National Association of Realtors® recently called on FICO, developer of the credit scoring model of the same name, to revise some of its computations. At issue is the alleged negative impact on consumers when banks and credit card companies unilaterally reduce or cancel credit lines, even when consumers are in good standing on those accounts. 2011 Predictions for the Arlington County and DC Metro Area Real Estate Market
Last January, I did a 2010 predictions post for the year. I was right for 4 out 5 (I didn’t expect interest rates to go as low as they did! That’s a good one to be wrong on!). So i’m going for 5 out of 5 for 2011 and putting my masters in Economics to good use. So here goes…here’s what I see happening in 2011: 1. Interest Rates Will Rise. We’ve been so spoiled this year with rates as low as 4% that we lose sight of the fact that interest rates are still the lowest they’ll probably ever be in our lifetime. I see rates getting back…Rest of Story…

Last year, internationally celebrated violinist Joshua Bell tried an experiment. He took his violin (a Stradivarius built in 1713, worth about $3.5 million) into the Washington, D.C. NAR: The Real Estate Market Has Hit Bottom
At long last, it is here: the bottom of what has been the worst real estate and capital market cycle in anyone’s recent memory. So says National Association of Realtors’ commercial economist George Rheiu. “There are multiple indicators suggesting that, on the commercial real estate side at least, we have hit bottom,” he tells GlobeSt.com. The most recent indicator was the upwardly revised GDP figures, now at 2.5%. Granted, this is not a growth rate “to write home about” Rheiu says, but it adds to…Rest of Story…

HIDDEN GEM IN STONE OAK
All puns aside, I recently stopped by Moses Jewelers off of Stone Oak Parkway in San Antonio (map) and was looking to get a few items appraised. I don’t do a lot of jewelry shopping (after being robbed I’ve sworn off ever buying expensive jewelry ever again), so on the rare occasions that I do go into a jewelers, I often take a look around and see what’s new, what everything is costing these days, and what kind of designs the store has. Moses Jewelers had some very beautiful diamond necklaces and earrings…Rest of Story…

Chart of the Day: “Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?”
Tuesday’s release of the S&P Case-Shiller home price index shows the housing market is heading back down after several months of growth this summer: Turns out the active market, particularly the new sellers entering the market each week have been screaming about this since July. If you want to know about the condition of the housing market, ask the sellers that enter the market each week – they’ll tell you exactly how the market is doing…See Chart…

Auld Lang Syne – Real Living HER Changes
For Auld Lang Syne… today December 1, 2010 things change for Real Living on the Internet. How Decrease in Nationwide Mobility Is Affecting Underwater Homeowners
Melinda Thompson can’t afford to live in North Jersey. And she can’t afford to leave. Her property taxes have risen from about $7,000 to about $12,000 in just seven years. She struggles with her mortgage payments, even after her lender modified the loan. But she can’t sell her raised ranch in Little Ferry, NJ unless she’s willing to take a substantial loss. And she thinks her job prospects wouldn’t be nearly as strong in other regions. Like Thompson, many homeowners think about leaving New Jersey…Rest of Story…
